One of the common complaints I hear from new marketers goes something like this: ??But I don?t have a list like you do?? ?Today I want to introduce you to solo ads and ad swaps, this is the marketer?s secret weapon for list building. ? To help you get your arms around how these two things work, let me create a hypothetical scenario for you.

Joe is a brand new marketer who is trying to build a network marketing business online. ? As Joe has spent the past few months following gurus and listening to webinars, one common theme has been evident?those who are making money are building lists. ?Joe realizes that this is critical if his business is going to grow, but he just doesn?t know where to begin. ? Then one day someone introduces him to the concept of a solo ad.

At the core, a solo ad is nothing more than renting someone?s existing marketing list. ? This simply means that for a fee, the list owner will send your marketing offer out to their existing list. ? There are 3 common varieties of solo ads most commonly found in the marketplace today.

The first variety is an ad that is sent to the subscribers of a membership website. ? These ads can often be very productive, especially if the site is a paid membership site. ? In the case of a paid membership site, each subscriber is a buyer. ?They have already demonstrated their willingness to pull out their credit card and spend money. ? It is not uncommon for membership sites to have a subscriber base into the hundreds of thousands. ?Typically the cost for an ad will be higher for a larger subscriber base or a paid subscriber base. ? Although leads can be generated from subscribers of free membership sites, the conversion and sales ratios are often much lower than those of a paid site.

The second variety is an ad that is sent out to a list of e-zine subscribers. ?These lists are often highly productive, because the subscriber base is highly focused on a particular niche. ? Another advantage with many e-zine providers is that they will limit the amount of advertising that is sent out with any one issue. ? In some cases your solo ad may be the only advertisement in the entire issue. ? Another benefit of e-zine advertising is that the emailing addresses of the subscribers are generally a primary address that is likely to be read, as often times an individual will set up a separate email for lists ( I have one of those myself). ? Again, list size and exclusivity are major factors in cost.

The third variety is the option that I have become most fond of. ?This option involves purchasing a mailing to the list of another marketer within your niche or a related niche. ? You will find in these arrangements that many list owners will not only sell you a mailing, but they will even guarantee a set number of clicks to that offer. ? As an added bonus, most of these list owners will over deliver on the number of clicks, hoping that you will use their service again or purchase a higher guaranteed click package from them. ? Prices are generally determined by the number of clicks guaranteed and the quality of the list (buyers vs. free offer seekers). ?There are a few primary places to purchase these solo ads:

I prefer using solo ad directory and safe-swaps, since both services allow for user feedback. ? Safe-Swaps?goes a step further in requiring that feedback and ratings be given for every solo ad and they provide a tracking link to ensure you are getting what you paid for. ?The self policing allows for the best user experience possible. ?Pricing for these types of ads is very reasonable. ?I regularly purchase 50 click ads for $10, 100 click ads for $28-40 and 200-300 click ads for $60-$80.

Once you have a growing list built, you can begin to utilize ad swaps in lieu of paid solo ads. ? In an ad swap arrangement, each marketer agrees to send an offer to the list of the other at a pre-arranged date and time. ? ?At the time the agreement is made, each marketer reviews the ad copy of the other to ensure that it is a proper fit for their list. ? I use Safe-Swaps?exclusively for this part of my business, since they offer tracking of clicks and the click through rate of the swap partner?s email copy.

Using Systems To Make The Most Of Your Solo Ads

The best use of solo ads will occur when you use them in conjunction with systems. ? ?Most systems will offer pre-made and tested email copy and lead capture pages. ? In my business, I typically use either a Facebook training offer from MyLeadSystemPro or the 3 Weird Marketing Tricks offer from Empower Network. ? ?In a 100 click solo ad, both of these offers consistently generate opt-in rates in the 35-40% range. ? Simply put for every 100 clicks, 35-40 new people show up on my marketing list.

Whether you have a list or are just starting out. ? Solo ads are a cost effective way of expanding your reach very quickly.

A study led by Dr. Manel Esteller compares the epigenetic marks of a healthy person with a patient with a genetic disease

A study led by Manel Esteller, director of the Epigenetics and Cancer Biology Program at the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL), professor of genetics at the University of Barcelona and ICREA researcher, has completed the first epigenome in Europe. The finding is published in the latest issue of the international scientific journal Epigenetics.

The genome of all cells in the human body is the same for all of them, regardless their aspect and functions. Therefore, genome cannot fully explain the activity of tissues and organs and their disorders in complex diseases like cancer. It takes a further explanation. Part of this explanation is provided by epigenetics, a field of biology that studies the heredity activity of DNA that does not involve changes in its sequence. That is, if genetics is the alphabet, epigenetics is the spelling that guides the activity of our cells.

Methylation

Epigenetics refers to chemical changes in our genetic material and proteins that regulate it. The best-known epigenetic mark is the methylation, the addition of a methyl chemical group (-CH3) in our DNA. The epigenome consists of all the epigenetic marks of a living being.

The authors of the study have completed the epigenomes for all brands of methylation of DNA from white blood cells of two girls: a healthy one and a patient suffering from a rare genetic disease called Immunodeficiency, Centromere instability and Facial anomalies syndrome (ICF). This disease is caused by a mutation in a gene that causes the addition of a methyl chemical group in its DNA.

The analysis performed by the researchers reveals that the patient has an epigenomic defect that causes fragility of chromosomes, which thus can easily be broken. In addition, the study shows that the patient has a wrong epigenetic control of many genes related to the response against infection, which causes a severe immune deficiency.

The study coordinator, Manel Esteller, emphasizes that due to this study, "we now know what happens in this type of rare diseases and we can start thinking about strategies for new treatments based on this knowledge."

Dr. Esteller is an international leader in the field of epigenetics. His work has been crucial to show that all human tumours have in common a specific chemical alteration: the hypermethylation of tumour suppressor genes. Since 2008 is the director of the Epigenetics and Cancer Biology Program at IDIBELL.

Bridget's Story ? Madison Birth Center

Why did I want a natural birth?

I had my first baby all natural in a hospital setting in Woodbury, MN. My friend was able to attend as her first doula experience, this was key in helping me keep my birth all natural. I labored a long time at home and even longer in the hospital and ended up having three different nurses. I also had the last nurse as well as the midwife switched in my last two hours of laboring, this threw my psyche way off. I tried for a water birth, but the environment wasn?t as calm as it needed to be for me to mentally relax. I ended up having a significant tear, and the midwife became stressed which caused me to be stressed. Although the hospital staff honored our wishes to keep baby with us and have as little intervention as possible, it was still stressful with the lights, sounds, switching of shifts, and constant medical check ups. Yes, I had done a very long and intense birth all natural, but it wasn?t the ?natural? that I had expected and imagined. With the surprise of finding out about my second pregnancy, now being in Madison, both my husband and I felt we needed to seek out the ?natural? and less stressed setting we had imagined. We were referred to the Madison Birth Center by a family member. This was the setting that we imagined along with the care and kindness that we had hoped for. My three year old son was able to be a part of my pregnancy journey, as he was welcomed at every visit and made to be a part of these visits. The transitioning for my baby as well as my self seemed to be instinctual for me to let my body handle birth once again working as a team to bring baby forth. This time having a home birth with the Madison Birth Center, it was done in a more relaxed environment with a more focused team that allowed the transition from womb to world to happen in the natural state it was meant to be. The midwives guided me with kindness and love that built my confidence and even though this was my body and baby that had to make the birth happen, this time as compared to last time I felt I had everyone in the room supporting me and lifting me up as a team to allow the transition to be calm and natural for baby. Even with complications during and after birth, again having a significant tear, the environment was calm and relaxed. The midwife and assistants were so in tuned to me and the baby, the complications were handled calmly and professionally in a way that was so different than that in the hospital.

What did I learn from the experience?

To be successful in all that I need to do, it takes the right people around you to allow you to make it happen. I am stronger in saying exactly what I want and seeking out the ways and answers to allow it to happen. I share my two very different experiences with others and let them know not to be ?scared? into having a natural child birth in a hospital setting and to seek out the natural child birth and setting that they imagine and feel confident in doing so.

What it did for my baby?

My daughter was born on the coldest day of the year in January of 2009. After the birth I was able to lie in my bed with my daughter on my chest cuddled up under blankets as my husband kept the fire in our living room burning. Our family was able to transition smoothly and effortlessly because I did not have to leave anywhere with our daughter. For two weeks we were able to love and comfort her here in our home, we never once took her out in that time as the Madison Birth Center had follow up care done in our home. When our family practice doctor found out that we were using the Madison Birth Center, he knew they gave such great care, that he followed up with us over the phone so our first appointment was at two weeks. This allowed our daughter to transition from the womb into her home more peacefully, allowing her to feel the love of her family as she adjusted to her new world.

How has it changed me as a person? My family? My perspective?

Receiving the sincere and focused care that I did at the Madison Birth Center, I realized that more needed to be done for women to allow them a better experience on the journey into motherhood. I share my two very different ?natural? experiences with those I meet, giving them the confidence and knowledge that they can make their choices to fulfill their needs and wants for the birth they?ve imagined. Soon after my daughter?s birth, I too wanted to give back to women the type of care that I received from the Madison Birth Center. I am now a certified Placenta Encapsulation Specialist. Allowing a woman to accept her inner primal strength and support her in the transition is important, and I feel that this experience has made me stronger in accepting this and able to support and share with others. I know from the experience of the care we received as a family with my pregnancy and the care we received during the birth and the follow up, allowed us to have a quicker and stronger bond as a family. My son and my husband were as big of a part of my daughter?s birth as I was, because the support team around us ensured this bond. I was able to be strong and confident because of the level of focused and sincere care that the midwives, my friend, and my husband had during the birth. The natural state of my surroundings, the calm music and low lights allowed a peaceful transition into the world for both my daughter and I. If more births were supported in this way, it would allow the natural bond and healing of a mother and her infant to be that much stronger.

Stray dog follows bikers over 1,100 miles

In China, a homeless dog latched onto a group of cyclists and the plucky canine ran along with them for their 24-day ride. The cyclists embraced their energetic, little companion, feeding it along the way.

BEIJING ? A stray dog has become China?s newest celebrity after latching onto a group of cyclists and traveling more than 1,100 miles over at least 12 mountains, some as high as 13,000 feet, in China?s southwestern Tibetan Plateau.

The homeless dog, nicknamed Xiao Sa, finished her 24-day journey from China?s Sichuan Province to Lhasa, Tibet on May 24.

?At first we didn?t think about adopting her at all,? said 22-year-old cyclist and college student Xiao Yong in an interview with China Central TV. ?But we were shocked by her perseverance. She followed us [from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province] to Litang [a town in Sichuan province with a 2.6 mile altitude]. We then decided to make a cage for her when we had a steep road going downhill.?

The long march began with a chicken leg Xiao Yong tossed to the puppy when he started his bike ride in early May. The little mutt followed the cyclist team after that and became part of the cycling group.

They came up with the nickname ?Xiao Sa? by combining the term ?xiao,? which means ?little,? with the last syllable of Lhasa, the administrative capital of Tibet and the cyclists final destination.

?She once ran 37 miles in one day, going uphill. We were very impressed by Xiao Sa?s persistence, that inspired us all the way till our destination, the Potala Palace [in Lhasa, Tibet],? said Xiao Yong. ?I?ll take Xiao Sa back home. I think she?s taking me as her owner now.?

Lu Bo, another team member, said the little white fur-ball was an inspiration to the whole team. The dog ?made us so happy. Once a few of our team members lagged behind, she ran from hill top to the bottom, to bring these guys to the rest of the team. She injected power into us,? said Lu.?

She is now with her new owner, Xiao Yong, in Wuhan, capital city of the southern Hubei province.

And like a true celebrity, Xiao Sa has even opened her own Weibo account, China?s most popular Twitter-like service. It is called ?GoGoXiaoSa,??where fans can check out her latest photos and whereabouts. And she already has over 82,000 followers.

Worldwide Enterprise Videoconferencing and Telepresence Market ...

FRAMINGHAM, Mass., May 29, 2012 ? Results from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Enterprise Videoconferencing and Telepresence Qview showed a noticeable deceleration in market growth in the first quarter of 2012 (1Q12) with videoconferencing revenue growing 14.4% year over year, well below the 23-25% year-over-year growth range witnessed in the last three consecutive quarters. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2011, the enterprise videoconferencing market declined 21.0% due to seasonality.

From a market segment perspective, the relative strength in the single-codec telepresence and the personal videoconferencing segments, which grew 28.5% and 52.6% year over year respectively, were offset by weakness in the multi-codec immersive telepresence and the "other" videoconferencing components segments, both of which saw year-over-year declines of 38.7% and 2.8% respectively. The first quarter of 2012 was the fifth consecutive quarter of year-over-year declines for the immersive telepresence segment, clear evidence of the ongoing trend of video pushing down market into the enterprise.

"The high-end, immersive telepresence market has been taking a hit lately as lower-cost, HD-quality video solutions, along with a range of new video deployment options for customers, have emerged," said Rich Costello, senior analyst, Enterprise Communications Infrastructure, at IDC. "We still expect overall positive video market growth for the next several years though, driven by the impact of video integrated with vendors' unified communications and collaboration portfolios, and with increasing strength among small workgroup, desktop, and mobile collaboration users."

Key Vendor Updates

Cisco's 1Q12 results beat the overall market with 30.7% year-over-year growth. Cisco remains the clear market leader and now holds 50.6% of the market, which is an improvement over its 44.3% share in 1Q11 but a decrease from its 54.3% market share in 4Q11.

Polycom's revenue declined 8.9% year over year and 20.0% quarter over quarter in 1Q12. Polycom's market share now stands at 26.3%, down from its 33.1% share in 1Q11 but slightly up from its 26.0% market share in 4Q11.

Lifesize (Logitech) revenue increased 2.3% year over year and 2.6% quarter over quarter in 1Q12 and remains the third largest player in the market.

Vidyo outperformed in 1Q12 with market leading 82% year-over-year and 6.6% quarter-over-quarter growth.

"Despite the 1Q12 performance that was somewhat below expectations, especially in comparison with the results witnessed in the previous three quarters, the enterprise videoconferencing and telepresence market remains one of the fastest growing networking technologies," said Petr Jirovsky, senior research analyst, Worldwide Networking Trackers Research. "The enterprise videoconferencing and telepresence market continues to place high on the list priorities for many CIOs."

I have a radio show coming up on June 4th on Cougar Chat Radio and we will be discussing emotional affairs.

This is such a controversial topic because so many people think that as long as there is no physical contact that anything is okay. Some people think that emotional affairs are worse than physical ones because they bind people?s hearts together, which can be even stickier than hot nookie.

Usually, I?d have some crazy story for you, full of fun expletives, smarmy commentary and inappropriate jokes. But this time, I don?t want to sway you one way other another. Progress of arachidonic acid biosynthesis in microorganisms

Single cell oils (SCO), produced by and extracted from some single-celled microorganisms, are featured with high levels of the major very long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). SCO are essential for health and potential sources of bio-diesel. There has been a long history of interest in the exploitation of microorganisms as oil and fat providers, due to the continuing diminution of arable land and climate change making animal and plant sourced oils even more limited. However, such endeavor has been progressing hardly, mostly because the efficiencies of oil synthesis by microorganisms are normally too low to be applied in industry at a reasonable price.

The article "Ion-beam-mutation breeding of an arachidonic acid biosynthesis microorganism and its industrial fermentation control" , by Z. L. Yu and Q. Huang et al., from the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, published in Chinese Science Bulletin (2012) 57: 883, has started to shed light on this issue. Cells of the oil-producing fungus Mortierella alpine were genetically modified by their patented technology, known as ion beam biotechnology, and screened using procedures tailored for oil yield. They obtained one strain: 50% of its biomass was fatty acids, of which 70% is arachidonic acid.

In their report "Fats and oils in human nutrition" released in 1993, the FAO and WHO suggested that diet for infants, especially preterm infants and infants with insufficient breast-feeding, should be supplemented with adequate amounts of fatty acids with composition corresponding to fatty acids contained in breast-milk. AA and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are particularly important for brain development but only found in breast milk naturally. Therefore it has become a long-term focus developing AA-rich oil in microorganisms.

Over two decades ago, the authors started the project by implanting energetic ions, generated by an ion source and accelerated to certain electrical potentials, into cells of Mortierella alpine, the fungus naturally synthesizing PUFA. Implanted ions resulted in genetic mutations. They firstly screened for mutant cells producing high levels of total fatty acids, presumably resulting from mutations in genes controlling palmitic acid synthesis from acetyl CoA. In the second stage, established mutant strains from the first stage were mutated again by ion implantation and strains accumulating AA, among various kinds of fatty acids, were screened for. Such two-stage protocol was repeated until a genetically stable, AA-rich strain was obtained. Its AA yield was nearly 20 times of that of the original non-mutated strain, showing prospect of industrial application. The strain was transferred to manufacturer and a production line was thereafter constructed in Wuhan, by which fermentation control study was initiated.

Fermentation control normally involves optimization of culture media and growth condition, to reach a comprehensive and balanced nutrition supply for cell metabolism. To be used as diet supplement for infants, safety is the most critical issue therefore a simple media formulation guaranteeing minimum substrate residue was desired. Researchers tested the possibility of recycling the fungi residue after oil extraction into culture media. The "waste utilization" simplified culture media from 7 ingredients to just 2, glucose and the fungi residue, therefore reduced manufacturing costs. Data from 11 batches of fermentation in 200 m3 reactor with the minimum substrates showed that, the new strain reached an average biomass of 35.8 g/L (dry fungi cells/fermentation liquid), oil and AA contents of 18.4 g/L and 8.97 g/L respectively. This result attracted attention from more researchers.

Z. Cohen and C. Ratledge commented in their compilation "Single Cell Oils" that, "Alternative microbial sources of AA are also being sought. Already it is known there is a process for AA production in China, operated by Wuhan Alking Bioengineering Co. Ltd, using a new strain of Mortierella alpine. This process appears to operate at the 50-100 ton level."

Fatty acids from most microbial sourced oils have a similar composition with plant oils. Developing microbial oils is a promising direction for both bio-diesel industry and biological economy. The work and its related technologies reported here, such as cell modification by ion beams and recycling of fungi residue as substrate, not only developed new AA resource, but also offered new thoughts and paved a novel route for future exploration of microbial oil industry. Chesapeake minister E.W. Jackson and tea party activist Jamie Radtke of Chesterfield County unequivocally backed Marshall Friday night.

"The biggest threat that we have facing this country is activist judges," Radtke said, claiming that the activism of a homosexual judge was responsible for same-sex marriage being legal in California though voters had rejected it twice.

Jackson said that if Democratic nominee Timothy M. Kaine is elected, he would fight for "just that kind of judge" to be appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Former Gov. George Allen's response to the question about Thorne-Begland was more ambiguous.

"Sexual orientation in my view is not a criteria for qualifying or disqualifying a judge," he said, adding: "I don't want activist judges."

Allen said he had not had the opportunity to examine Thorne-Begland's record but added that he had "trust and respect" for the decision made by Del. L. Mark Dudenhefer, R-Stafford, a former Marine officer who opposed the appointment on the grounds that Thorne-Begland had violated military rules by openly opposing don't ask, don't tell.

Marshall criticized Allen for not directly answering the question and touted what he termed his long record of standing up to both parties and starting fights.

"Frankly, folks, I went to a thug high school," he said.

Aside from the Thorne-Begland exchange, fireworks were few and far between at the event, a debate that was tame compared with the GOP candidates' aggressive encounter in Virginia Beach two weeks ago.

While the candidates agreed on most policy issues like the concept of a flat tax and state control of higher education funding, Marshall took a decidedly different tack from the others, hammering on social issues throughout the debate.

In his opening remarks, Marshall said that President Barack Obama and Kaine "demand that religiously affiliated citizens participate in the direct killing of pre-born children by compulsory purchase of abortion-inducing contraceptives" and pledging "resistance."

Allen, who remained largely positive, took a few shots from Radtke, who attacked his record as a U.S. senator and specifically his support for Medicare Part D, the prescription drug benefit that has added annually to the deficit.

"We cannot have somebody ? that's been a senator who voted for the largest expansion of entitlements since Lyndon Johnson's Great Society," she said in response to a question on health care. "That is not credibility on the issue."

Allen, the front-runner by a wide margin, stuck with a general election-focused message, frequently attacking Kaine and Obama.

Asked what policies and regulations he would like to shed, Allen cited, among other things, "the mountains of regulations emanating from 'Obamacare' which Tim Kaine calls, quote, a great achievement."

He was not alone in taking aim at Kaine and Obama and bypassing Republican opponents.

Jackson, who turned in another impassioned performance, kicked off the debate by declaring: "It is time for us to end the tenure of King Barack and send him back to where he came from."

In closing, Jackson brought down the house saying he was not interested in fighting his fellow GOP candidates, adding: "But I'm here to declare war on Tim Kaine and Barack Obama."
