Are you making the most of your finest assets? | Grace Marshall Life ...

When you have your nose to the grindstone, it?s hard to see beyond the grindstone. It can be a great place to focus but only on what?s immediately in front of you.

Sometimes you have to lift your head up, take a different view to see options and factors that are outside of the immediate picture, and go from ?What can I do within this situation?? to ?What can I bring into this situation??

Which is why I love the conversation I had with a newly appointed charity director last week. Like many charities, they have seen a significant drop in funding, with one of their major sources virtually dried up. But while funding was his most immediate focus, our conversation was about team development and productivity.

He understood the value of investing in people in a time of budget cuts. The value of team,? that he couldn?t do it all on his own. He knew his strengths ? what they are and what they?re not ? and recognised that if he was to use his strengths most effectively, he would need each member of his team to be confident, equipped and empowered to do what they do best.

He understood the value of dialogue. He knew that the best ideas are not always the most obvious ones, and may not come from him. He needed to create an environment where each member of the team felt able, confident and free to throw their ideas into the pot, however plain or unusual, in order to brew up the best ideas.

Getting funding was just one side of the equation. Using those resources well was something that required the whole team to be fully engaged, highly effective and working well together, to the best of their capacity and capabilities.

He asked me how he could go about developing his team and improving their effectiveness in a way that created a culture of openness, where ideas are welcome, where all are valued and feel confident playing to their strengths.

Here are the tips I gave him ? and how they apply to you even if you are the only person in your business:

1. Identify your strengths

The best teams have different people working well together. The more they can be harnessed, the better results for the team overall, but strengths are the things that strengthen us too, so the more each person plays to their strengths, the more motivated, energised and fulfilled by their work they are likely to be.

What are your strengths? How clear are you on what what they are and what they are not? For those of us who are self-employed, the tasks we ?have to? and ?should? do can sometimes take over and push aside the work that really brings out the best in us.

How much do you play to your strengths? And how well do they complement the strengths of the people you work with ? your clients, your partners, your support team or suppliers?

2. Speak Life ? Use Constructive Language

Those differences that make a great team can also be a source of tension. Overused, our strengths can be the very things that sabotage our success. When a team can communicate constructively about their strengths, weaknesses, differences, mistakes and successes, they can create a culture of collaboration and improvement, rather than one of blame, criticism and avoidance.

What kind of language do you use ? with your team, your clients, your stakeholders (your family, for example) and with yourself? Is it open and constructive? Or defensive, critical or apologetic? Do your words build up or tear down? And yes, this most definitely applies to the words you use with yourself too.

3.?Purpose and drive comes from a clear vision and values

Somewhere inside all of us is a desire to make a difference, to serve a purpose and be part of something bigger than ourselves. But when there?s confusion, uncertainty and distrust in the air, it can feel safer to retreat to our own little bubble, keep our head down and just focus on doing our job. A cohesive team needs clear vision and values ? a common cause and direction to rally around. A confused team gets tired, demotivated and distracted.

How clear are you about your vision and values? How much of this is communicated and lived out in the way you do business? Business author Patrick Lencioni describes a core value as something you?re willing to get punished for, and violating it would be like selling your soul. That?s why, when you are clear about your values, it?s so much easier to focus ? to?identify opportunities from distractions,?choose between good ideas and best ideas and distinguish between ideal clients and ones to walk away from.

4. Equip yourself with what works

Effective training is not just about telling people what they are doing wrong and how to do it ?properly?. In fact, I would wager that most people have a good idea of what?s not working, especially when it comes to time management and productivity. What they are less clear about is why, and how they can change the picture.

Forget proper. Go for what works. A great coach or trainer is one who can help you to develop new insights, consider fresh perspectives and implement strategies that work for you ? in a way that fits your personality, lifestyle and working style.

Where are your training gaps? Who can help you to fill those gaps? What resources do you need to bring into your current situation to change the picture?

I?d love to hear from you ? how are you investing in your people and in you? What has this prompted you to work on? Do share your thoughts in the comments box below.

And get in touch if you?d like me to help.

(AP) ? Newsweek will end its print publication after 80 years and shift to an all-digital format in early 2013.

Its last U.S. print edition will be its Dec. 31 issue. The paper version of Newsweek is the latest casualty of a changing world where readers get more of their information from websites, tablets and smartphones. It's also an environment in which advertisers are looking for less expensive alternatives online.

Newsweeklies have been in an especially tough spot at a time when people don't want to wait a week to read commentary and news digests of big stories, given a flood of instant content available online.

The announcement of the change was made Thursday by Tina Brown, editor-in-chief and founder of The Newsweek Daily Beast Co, and Baba Shetty, its CEO. Job cuts are expected.

"In our judgment, we have reached a tipping point at which we can most efficiently and effectively reach our readers in all-digital format," Brown and Shetty said on The Daily Beast website.

Newsweek's decision does not come as a surprise. Barry Diller, the head of the company that owns Newsweek, announced in July that the publication was examining its future as a weekly print magazine. Diller said then that producing a weekly news magazine in print form wasn't easy.

Newsweek isn't the first to drop its print product. US News & World Report dropped its weekly print edition years ago and now focuses on the Web and special print editions, such as a guide to best graduate schools. SmartMoney announced in June that it was going all-digital. Dow Jones & Co., a unit of News Corp., said at the time that 25 positions at SmartMoney would be eliminated.

Brown said staff cuts at Newsweek are expected, but didn't give a specific figure. She also said that Newsweek's editorial and print operations would be streamlined in the U.S. and abroad.

Newsweek's print edition has been losing relevancy over the years as readers flocked to new, digital sources for news. It did become a conversation piece last month when a cover essay, "Muslim Rage: How I Survived It, How We Can End It," spawned a huge response on Twitter. Newsweek had invited Twitter users to write about the subject using the hashtag "MuslimRage." But most people, many of them Muslim, mocked the subject instead of adopting the article's serious tone. Newsweek, for its part, took the jabs in stride and said its covers and hashtags spark debate on big topics.

Newsweek hasn't been doing well for years. Mounting losses prompted The Washington Post Co. in 2010 to sell Newsweek for $1 to stereo equipment magnate Sidney Harman. Harman died the following year.

Before he died, he placed Newsweek into a joint venture with IAC/InterActiveCorp's The Daily Beast website in an effort to trim the magazine's losses and widen its online audience.

Brown and Shetty said the all-digital publication will be called Newsweek Global and will be a single, worldwide edition that requires a paid subscription. It will be available for tablets and website reading, with certain content available on The Daily Beast website.

"We are transitioning Newsweek, not saying goodbye to it," they wrote.

Elaborate sting in Federal Reserve plot

NEW YORK, N.Y. - A Bangladeshi man who came to the United States to wage jihad was arrested in an elaborate FBI sting on Wednesday after attempting to blow up a fake car bomb outside the Federal Reserve building in Manhattan, authorities said.

Before trying to carry out the alleged terrorism plot, Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis went to a warehouse to help assemble a 1,000-pound bomb using inert material, according to a criminal complaint. He also asked an undercover agent to videotape him saying, "We will not stop until we attain victory or martyrdom," the complaint said.

Agents grabbed the 21-year-old Nafis ? armed with a cellphone he believed was rigged as a detonator ? after he made several attempts to blow up the bomb inside a vehicle parked next to the Federal Reserve, the complaint said.

Authorities emphasized that the plot never posed an actual risk. However, they claimed the case demonstrated the value of using sting operations to neutralize young extremists eager to harm Americans.

"Attempting to destroy a landmark building and kill or maim untold numbers of innocent bystanders is about as serious as the imagination can conjure," said Mary Galligan, acting head of the FBI's New York office. "The defendant faces appropriately severe consequences."

Nafis appeared in federal court in Brooklyn to face charges of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to provide material support to al-Qaida. Wearing a brown T-shirt and black jeans, he was ordered held without bail and did not enter a plea. His defence attorney had no comment outside court.

The defendant had sought assurances from an undercover agent posing as an al-Qaida contact that the terrorist group would support the operation.

"The thing that I want to do, ask you about, is that, the thing I'm doing, it's under al-Qaida?" he was recorded saying during a meeting in bugged hotel room in Queens, according to the complaint.

In a September meeting in the same hotel room, Nafis "confirmed he was ready to kill himself during the course of the attack, but indicated he wanted to return to Bangladesh to see his family one last time to set his affairs in order," the complaint said.

But there was no allegation that Nafis actually received training or direction from the terrorist group.

Prosecutors say Nafis travelled to the U.S. on a student visa in January to carry out an attack. In July, he contacted a confidential informant, telling him he wanted to form a terror cell, the criminal complaint said.

In further conversations, authorities said Nafis proposed several spots for his attack, including the New York Stock Exchange ? and that in a written letter taking responsibility for the Federal Reserve job he was about to carry out, he said he wanted to "destroy America." Other communications took place through Facebook, the complaint said.

A Twitter account with the suspect's name and photo had six followers and two messages and was linked to a Facebook page that had been taken down.

Nafis attended Southeast Missouri State University during the spring semester, which ran from January to May, university spokeswoman Ann Hayes told The Associated Press. He was pursuing a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity.

Hayes said Nafis requested a transfer of his records in July and the university complied, though she couldn't say where the records were transferred.

On Wednesday, federal officials were at the New York home where Nafis was staying, a red brick building in the Jamaica neighbourhood of Queens. Owner Rafiqul Islam said Nafis was staying with his second-floor tenants, and he was told he was related to the family. The tenants didn't answer their door and their apartment was dark.

Islam said Nafis had only lived there about a month or so.

"I didn't notice anything, he spoke to me very quietly," he said. "He said he was going to be studying here."

Neighbour Jose Santos, 19, said he would see Nafis at the same grocery store.

"He seemed like a regular nice guy to me," Santos said. "I'm just shocked right now to see that he tried to plant a 1,000-pound bomb. That's crazy."

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said the case is one more reminder that New York remains a target:

"New York continues to be very much in the mind frame of terrorism. This individual came here with the express purpose of committing a terrorist attack; he was motivated by al-Qaida. We see this threat as being with us for a long time to come."

Kelly said security is always a precaution and there are about a thousand officers in the counterterrorism division. He didn't specify if any additional measures were being taken.

The bank, located at 33 Liberty St., is one of 12 branches around the country that, along with the Board of Governors in Washington, make up the Federal Reserve System that serves as the central bank of the United States. It sets interest rates.

The Federal Reserve is one of the most fortified buildings in the city, smack in the middle of a massive security effort headed by the New York Police Department where a network of thousands of private and police cameras watch for suspicious activity.

The department uses sophisticated programs that can search for suspicious activity, like an object in one place for a long time, at the building modeled after London's "ring of steel." The analytic software also is designed to take video and catalogue it according to movements, shapes and colours, so officers can set parameters to search the system for, say, a suspicious van.

The Fed is also home to the world's largest accumulation of gold, according to the bank's website. Dozens of governments and central banks store a portion of their gold reserves in high-security vaults deep beneath the building. In recent years, it held 216 million troy ounces of gold, or more than a fifth of all global monetary gold reserves, making it a bigger bullion depository than Fort Knox.

The federal case was the latest where a terrorism plot against the city turned out to be a sting operation.

Four men were convicted in 2009 in a plot to bomb synagogues and shoot down military planes with missiles - a case that began after an FBI informant was assigned to infiltrate a mosque in Newburgh, about 70 miles north of New York City. The federal judge hearing the case said she was not proud of the government's role in nurturing the plot.

In 2004, a Pakistani immigrant was arrested and convicted for a scheme to blow up the subway station at Herald Square in Midtown. His lawyers argued that their client had been set up by a police informant who showed him pictures of Iraq abuse to get him involved in an attack against civilians.

Colombia to start testing 700MHz LTE, joins a Latin American trend in 4G

Those in the US can brag about having the range, indoor friendliness and other advantages of 700MHz LTE, but few other countries have that edge so far: Latin Americans who have any LTE at all usually have to contend with less tolerant 2.6GHz bands. Colombia isn't happy with that state of affairs, and its National Spectrum Agency is spearheading a rapidly growing 4G movement in the region by testing 700MHz LTE between the fall and winter. Its strategy echoes proposals from Brazil and Mexico that will use the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity band plan, providing more efficient airwaves as well as wider device and network coverage. It will take beyond early 2013 before Colombia and its neighbors are actively using 700MHz bands -- the digital TV transition is one of the bigger obstacles -- but there's desires for a fast-track spectrum handout that could bring blazing speeds to Bogota before too long.

Armstrong stepping down as Livestrong chairman

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) ? Lance Armstrong stepped down as chairman of his Livestrong cancer-fighting charity while Nike and Anheuser-Busch each said they were cutting ties with him as fallout from the doping scandal that has swirled around the famed cyclist escalated Wednesday.

Armstrong announced his move at the charity in an early-morning statement. Within minutes, Nike said that it would end its relationship with him "due to the seemingly insurmountable evidence that Lance Armstrong participated in doping and misled Nike for more than a decade."

Nike said it will continue to support Livestrong.

Beer-maker Anheuser-Busch did not give a reason for its action, which followed hours later. A two-sentence statement from U.S. marketing vice president Paul Chibe said simply, "We have decided not to renew our relationship with Lance Armstrong when our current contract expires at the end of 2012. We will continue to support the Livestrong Foundation and its cycling and running events."

The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency released a massive report last week detailing allegations of widespread doping by Armstrong and his teams when he won the Tour de France seven consecutive times from 1999 to 2005.

The document's purpose was to show why USADA has banned him from cycling for life and ordered 14 years of his career results erased ? including those Tour titles. It contains sworn statements from 26 witnesses, including 11 former teammates.

Armstrong, who was not paid a salary as chairman of the Lance Armstrong Foundation, will remain on its 15-member board. His duties leading the board will be turned over to vice chairman Jeff Garvey, who was founding chairman in 1997.

"This organization, its mission and its supporters are incredibly dear to my heart," Armstrong said in a statement. "Today therefore, to spare the foundation any negative effects as a result of controversy surrounding my cycling career, I will conclude my chairmanship."

Foundation spokeswoman Katherine McLane said the decision turns over the foundation's big-picture strategic planning to Garvey. He will also assume some of the public appearances and meetings that Armstrong used to handle.

Kelley O'Keefe, professor of brand strategy at Virginia Commonwealth University, said the charity already may be permanently damaged and that Armstrong may never be able to fully resume his public role.

"From the brand perspective, Armstrong is done," O'Keefe said.

O'Keefe compared Armstrong to Tiger Woods and Michael Vick, who also were embroiled in controversy but were able to return to the playing fields to help redeem their image.

"Armstrong doesn't have that. He's just a retired athlete with a tarnished image," O'Keefe said.

Armstrong strongly denies doping, but did not fight USADA accusations through arbitration, saying he thinks the process is unfair. Once Armstrong gave up the fight in August and the report came out, crisis management experts predicted the future of the foundation, known mainly by its Livestrong brand name, would be threatened. They said Armstrong should consider stepping down.

Armstrong's inspiring story of not only recovering from testicular cancer that had spread to his lungs and brain but then winning the world's best-known bike race helped his foundation grow from a small operation in Texas into one of the most popular charities in the country.

Armstrong drew legions of fans ? and donations ? and insisted he was drug free at a time when doping was rampant in professional cycling. In 2004, the foundation introduced the yellow "Livestrong" bracelets, selling more than 80 million and creating a global symbol for cancer awareness and survivorship.

"As my cancer treatment was drawing to an end, I created a foundation to serve people affected by cancer. It has been a great privilege to help grow it from a dream into an organization that today has served 2.5 million people and helped spur a cultural shift in how the world views cancer survivors," Armstrong said.

As chairman, Armstrong did not run the foundation's day-to-day operations, which are handled by Livestrong president and chief executive Doug Ulman.

Ulman had said last week that Armstrong's leadership role would not change. Armstrong's statement said he will remain a visible advocate for cancer issues, and he is expected to speak at Friday night's 15th anniversary gala for Livestrong in Austin.

"My family and I have devoted our lives to the work of the foundation and that will not change. We plan to continue our service to the foundation and the cancer community. We will remain active advocates for cancer survivors and engaged supporters of the fight against cancer," Armstrong said.

CharityWatch, which analyzes the work of approximately 600 charities, lists the foundation among its top-rated organizations. That status normally goes to groups which "generally spend 75 percent or more of their budgets on programs, spend $25 or less to raise $100 in public support, do not hold excessive assets in reserve" and disclose basic financial information and documents.

Livestrong says it had functional expenses totaling nearly $35.8 million last year and 82 percent of every dollar raised went directly to programs, a total of more than $29.3 million.

The foundation reported a spike in contributions in late August in the days immediately after Armstrong announced he would no longer fight doping charges and officials moved to erase his Tour victories.

Daniel Borochoff, founder and president of Chicago-based CharityWatch, said last week it may take some time for donors to digest the allegations against Armstrong.

"Individuals that admire and support an individual who is later found out to be severely tarnished, don't want to admit it, don't want to admit that they've been duped," Borochoff said. "People, though, do need to trust a charity."

(Tip: The baguettes can be made up to three days ahead of time and kept in an airtight container. They can be warmed in the oven at 200?F for about 10 minutes before using.)

2. For the filling: In a mixing bowl toss together the lobster meat and cucumber. Add the mayonnaise, lemon zest and juice and chives to the lobster mixture and season with salt and pepper. Gently mix together until well combined.

Firefox 16

After a somewhat fitful initial release, Firefox 16 (actually 16.0.1) is now the prevailing version of Mozilla's independent, open-source browser. You might say that the update only adds new features for developers, but those in turn can mean new Web capabilities for ordinary browser users. Case in point: the browser's new support for CSS Transformations and Gradients can add visual effects to pages, and its new support for Web apps means sites can shed their browser skin and live as standalone programs on your desktop.

Partly because of its constant improvements and innovations and partly because it's not the product of a large corporation but rather an international open-source-contributed effort, I'm still a big Firefox fan. ?And there's not much that other browsers can do that Firefox can't. It has lots of HTML5 support, the best extension and customization capabilities, and a unique "Panorama" tab organizer. While you can get all this Mozilla goodness for Windows, Mac, or Linux, I evaluated the Windows version for this review. On the mobile side, you can read our review of review of Firefox for Android.

Firefox for the desktop's big interface changes all came along in version 4. That was when Mozilla started emulating Google's Chrome (free, 4.5 stars) Web browser in JavaScript speed and minimalist interface, as other Windows browser competitors Internet Explorer 9 (free,? 3.5 stars) and Opera 12 (free, 3.5 stars) have done, too.

Firefox 16 can nearly match Chrome on JavaScript speed, and holds its own when it comes to HTML5 support and a trimmed down interface that gives the Web page center stage. But when compared side-by-side with Chrome, Firefox falls just a bit short in terms of HTML5 support and whiz-bang features like Chrome Instant, which loads pages from your history before you even finish typing their addresses or search terms in the address bar. It also lacks Chrome's integrated support for Adobe Flash and PDFs.

But while we're still waiting for "Do Not Track" privacy support in Chrome, it's been available in Firefox since version 9. Firefox 7 added better use of memory by the browser itself, addressing one of the most common complaints I've heard about Firefox over the past few years. It also sped up startup times, in which Firefox has long trailed competing browsers.

Install
A simple 16MB download gets you the Firefox 16 Windows installer. When you run it you'll lose your old version of Firefox. The latest Firefox is available for Mac (30MB) and Linux (17MB) as well as for Windows 7, Vista, and XP?the last of which even Internet Explorer 9 (Free, 4 stars) can't claim. You can import bookmarks from any other installed browsers on first run, but setup is as uncomplicated as it is for Chrome. Firefox also now makes it easy to choose a search provider other than Google, but surprisingly, not as easy as Chrome does. Mozilla also offers a Firefox with Bing version, which uses Microsoft's Web search built in.

Mozilla has been working towards silent updates for Firefox since at least the summer of 2010. And starting with version 15 this effort finally came to fruition?you no longer need to explicitly update Firefox; it happens after a restart of the browser without an interrupting update procedure. The Firefox installation gets around Windows' User Access dialog in a more orthodox way than Google Chrome's automatic updates. Chrome installs in a non-standard, non program folder, which some consider a potential security risk. Firefox, however, uses a "service" rather than a standard program process for the update to avoid the UAC dialog.

Interface
Firefox's interface is in line with the trend of "less is more"?less space taken up by the browser frame and controls and more space for Web pages. The page tabs have moved above the address bar, and as with Opera 12, there's just a single menu option in the form of the orange Firefox button at top left. You can re-enable the standard menus by hitting the Alt key.

Firefox's new-tab page has tiles for most-accessed sites on the new-tab page, and includes lots of settings on its default home page. As in most other browsers, you can customize what's on these thumbnails, and they shrink and enlarge as you resize the browser window. You can also remove sites and pin and unpin them to the new-tab page. But you can't specify which sites to include: They're chosen by frequency of your visits.

It's not quite up to the level of Safari's beautiful 3D Top Sites page or Opera's Speed Dial, which even offers live information on its pinned tiles. Most other browsers let you re-open closed sessions?Firefox's default home page lets you do this, but I'd like to see the choice on the new-tab page, too. If you don't want the tile view, a button at top right turns it off, reverting to the plain white, blank tab page.

The Home button is to the right of the search bar, and a bookmark button appears to the right of that. That bookmark button only appears when you don't want the bookmark toolbar taking up browser window space. This gives you one-click access to frequently needed Web addresses. But I wish that, like IE's star button, the button also let you see recent page history. You can still call up the full bookmark manager, which lets you do things like importing bookmarks from other browsers, search, and organize. And the full History dialog does let you see all recent visits, but it's not as convenient as IE's star dropdown.

Firefox is one of the last remaining browsers to still use separate address and search boxes, which is good for those who like to keep those two activities separate. That doesn't mean, however, that a search won't work in the address bar, aka the "awesome bar." That tool, which drops down suggestions from your history and favorites whenever you start typing, was pioneered by Firefox and copied by all other browsers. Another tweak is that when one of its suggested sites is already open in a tab, you can click on a "Switch to tab" link, preventing you from opening more tabs unnecessarily?a useful tweak.

As part of its leading extensibility, Firefox has always been the browser most open to allowing different search providers, including specialized search like shopping, reference, or social. It was one of the first to support the OpenSearch format. The other popular browsers now do so, too, but Firefox can automatically detect search services on a page and let you add them from the search bar. And Firefox's built-in Twitter search option makes it easy to find Twitter personalities worth following as well as popular photos and videos on the social network.

Google opens window into secretive data centers

14 hrs.

Google is opening a virtual window into the secretive data centers where an intricate maze of computers process Internet search requests, show YouTube video clips and distribute email for millions of people.

The unprecedented peek is being provided through a new website unveiled Wednesday at http://www.google.com/about/datacenters/gallery/#/ . The site features photos from inside some of the eight data centers that Google Inc. already has running in the U.S., Finland and Belgium. Google is also building data centers in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Chile.

Virtual tours of a North Carolina data center also will be available through Google's "Street View" service, which is usually used to view photos of neighborhoods around the world.

The photographic access to Google's data centers coincides with the publication of a Wired magazine article about how the company builds and operates them. The article is written by Steven Levy, a journalist who won Google's trust while writing "In The Plex," a book published last year about the company's philosophy and evolution.

The data centers represent Google's nerve center, although none are located near the company's headquarters in Mountain View, Calif.

As Google blossomed from its roots in a Silicon Valley garage, company co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin worked with other engineers to develop a system to connect low-cost computer servers in a way that would help them realize their ambition to provide a digital roadmap to all of the world's information.

Initially, Google just wanted enough computing power to index all the websites on the Internet and deliver quick responses to search requests. As Google's tentacles extended into other markets, the company had to keep adding more computers to store videos, photos, email and information about their users' preferences.

The insights that Google gathers about the more than 1 billion people that use its services has made the company a frequent target of privacy complaints around the world. The latest missive came Tuesday in Europe, where regulators told Google to revise a 7-month-old change to its privacy policy that enables the company to combine user data collected from its different services.

Google studies Internet search requests and Web surfing habits in an effort to gain a better understanding of what people like. The company does this in an effort to show ads of products and services to the people most likely to be interested in buying them. Advertising accounts for virtually all of Google's revenue, which totaled nearly $23 billion through the first half of this year.

Even as it allows anyone with a Web browser to peer into its data centers, Google intends to closely guard physical access to its buildings. The company also remains cagey about how many computers are in its data centers, saying only that they house hundreds of thousands of machines to run Google's services.

Google's need for so many computers has turned the company a major electricity user, although management says it's constantly looking for ways to reduce power consumption to protect the environment and lower its expenses.

The company's data centers are located in: Berkeley County, S.C.; Council Bluffs, Iowa; Douglas County, Ga.; Mayes County, Okla.; Lenoir, N.C.; The Dalles, Ore.; Hamina, Finland; and St. Ghislain, Belgium. Other data centers are being built in Quilicura, Chile; Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan.

Pool Construction in Managua | Indoor Swimming Pool Guide

The best quality materials will be wasted without proper installation. For your pool construction in Managua, workmanship quality is key and if you can afford it, you should call pool construction experts. If you do not want to spend lots of money, you can supervise your pool construction carefully.

Indoor Swimming Pool Construction in Managua

Be aware that if they are not experts with over 5 years experience in indoor swimming pool building, most construction workers in Managua will not be familiar with the specialized materials and techniques required. Hence, before the construction begins, you have to make sure that each pool worker understands the importance of the materials and their proper installation.

Indoor swimming pool construction in Managua

Also, coordinate carefully different suppliers work and where they overlap. If you can, daily review construction and installation of materials to find problems before they become hidden from view.
These tips will ensure your swimming pool construction in Managua at good quality standards for a reasonable price.

Selecting a Contractor for your Swimming Pool Construction in Managua

In Managua, any contracting job including swimming pool construction or repair that costs over $500 must be performed by a contractor who holds a current, valid contractors license usually in the classification for which they are contracting. Contractors who build or repair swimming pools must be licensed as swimming pool specialty contractors.

A general building contractor may also contract for swimming pool construction in Managua provided the general building contractor holds the swimming pool specialty classification, or the general building contractor hires a licensed swimming pool specialty contractor to perform the work in Managua.

Other contractors like plumbers, landscapers, solar workers, etc., should work within their specific areas of licensure in Managua, and cannot be responsible for the overall project.

Homeowners who are considering swimming pool construction may work with a salesperson. The law does allow licensed contractors to employ registered home improvement salespersons (HIS) to solicit, negotiate, sell, or execute contracts, including swimming pool construction and repair.

Tips for Choosing your Pool Contractor in Managua

- Get referrals: It is a good idea to ask friends or family for referrals before hiring a pool contractor or service company. You may also get referrals from trade associations, such as a local builders? exchange or a Managua swimming pool and spa association.
- Get references: You should ask for references from the contractor, at least one current and one completed in Managua. When you call to talk with the client about the job, be sure to ask how the project was handled and about their satisfaction with the contractor, sub-contractors and employees, as well as the end result for the completed job.
- Get bids: It is important to get at least three bids in Managua so you can compare them.
- Verify the license or registration: Make sure to verify that the contractors license or registration is in the name that is presented to you and that it is current and active. Ask the contractor or salesperson to see their identification and check that the name of the Managua swimming pool company with which you are doing business is listed.
- Have a contract: make sure everything is in writing. This includes materials, schedule and clean-up. Changes, details and payment scheduled should be written down in detail. Do not sign anything until you completely understand the terms. A plan and scale drawing of the shape, size, and dimensions must be included as part of your swimming pool contract in Managua.

Falcons soar to top of AP Pro32 NFL power rankings

NEW YORK (AP) ? A close call on the field, a clear win in the AP Pro32 NFL power rankings.

The Atlanta Falcons soared to the top of the rankings Tuesday after a 23-20 win over the Oakland Raiders left them as the league's only unbeaten team.

Atlanta (6-0) received 11 of the 12 first-place votes and 381 points from The Associated Press panel of media members who regularly cover the NFL.

"Good things always bode well for the last undefeated team standing," Chris Berman of ESPN said after the Falcons won another close game, this time on Matt Bryant's 55-yard field goal with a second left.

Then again, there's still a nonbeliever.

"Undefeated, but they don't pass the eye test for being the best team," notes Clifton Brown of Sporting News after ranking the Falcons fourth with the New York Giants on top.

The Giants moved up five spots to second with one first-place vote and 364 points after a 26-3 win over San Francisco. The Baltimore Ravens were third with 352 points.

The Houston Texans, who held the top spot for three weeks before their first loss, 42-24 to Green Bay, were fourth, followed by the 49ers.

The Falcons became the fifth team to be ranked No. 1 this season. The others were Green Bay, New England, San Francisco and Houston.

Voters were impressed with the way the Giants came into San Francisco and dominated a team looking to avenge its overtime loss to New York in the NFC championship game last season.

"From an offense/defense/special teams standpoint, New York's 26-3 win at San Francisco was the most impressive victory posted by any team this season," said Alex Marvez of Foxsports.com.

Added Berman: "THAT'S why they're the defending champs."

Although the Ravens are third, there's concern about how they will fare with star linebacker Ray Lewis and cornerback Lardarius Webb out for the season with injuries.

"Talk about a Pyrrhic victory. That Dallas game may have cost the Ravens more than they ever thought possible," said Clark Judge of CBSSports.com.

On the upswing are Seattle, Denver and Washington.

The Redskins and Seahawks each moved up six spots after big wins. Washington was 13th after its win over Minnesota and the Seattle was ninth after its win over New England.

"This is a dangerous team with a nasty defense and a smooth rookie QB," Pat Kirwan of CBSSports.com/Sirius XM said of the Seahawks. "Big, big game Thursday night against the 49ers.

As for Robert Griffin III and the Redskins, Judge said: "I don't know how much the Redskins win, but I know RG3 makes them must-see TV."

The Broncos were up five sports to 10th after a comeback 35-24 win over San Diego on Monday night.

"No matter how many times Peyton Manning makes this kind of magic, it never gets old watching it," Bob Glauber of Newsday said. "His second-half rally in San Diego ranks near the top of pages-long list of career highlights."

There are 11 teams with 3-3 records. The highest ranked is Green Bay at seventh; the lowest is Buffalo at 24th.

"I laugh at people who question and criticize reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers ... Really?" asked Rich Gannon of CBS Sports/Sirius XM after listing the Packers at sixth.

As for the Bills, one voter had them 27th, even after their 19-16 overtime win at Arizona.

"With the season they've had, they're tied for first in AFC East. Wacky," said Sporting News' Brown.

Jacksonville fell to 32nd and last, replacing Cleveland after the Browns won for the first time and moved up to 30th.

"Last in offense, 29th in defense and first in line for the top pick in the 2013 draft," Ira Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune said.

GENEVA (AP) ? Powered by demand for its cancer drugs, Swiss drugmaker Roche on Tuesday reported a 7 percent increase in sales of its pharmaceutical products for the first nine months of 2012.

The world's biggest producer of cancer-fighting drugs said its pharmaceutical division's sales over the three quarters rose to 26.2 billion Swiss francs ($28.08 billion), from 24.4 billion francs in the same time period last year.

The company, based in Basel, Switzerland, had solid growth in its top three cancer drugs ? MabThera/Rituxan, Herceptin and Avastin, which it said accounted for 52 percent of the division's sales.

Roche benefits from having strong sellers whose patents will not expire soon, unlike many of its major competitors seeking the next blockbuster.

Shares in Roche Holding AG rose almost 1 percent Tuesday morning to 184.50 francs ($197.77).

In its financial statement, Roche said the strong growth in the third quarter was helped by the launch of its new breast cancer medicine, Perjeta, in the United States and Europe. Its sales were also bolstered by the weakening of the Swiss franc against the dollar and yen.

CEO Severin Schwan said the drug development pipeline has continued to feed into sales, and that the company is on target to meet its financial goals this year.

In a conference call with reporters, he declined to answer questions about whether Roche might reconsider its failed hostile bid of about $6.5 billion to acquire U.S. diagnostics firm Illumina Inc.

Roche had announced in January an offer to buy the California-based company's shares, then raised that offer after Illumina's board rejected the bid. It let the last offer expire on April 20.

The Swiss drugmaker confirmed its outlook for sales growth would be in the low to middle single-digit range at constant exchange rates this year.
