DOH-NCR eyes misting, disinfecting in Quiapo Church

Offices, schools and bus terminals have already turned to the Department of Health-National Capital Region (DOH-NCR) for misting and disinfecting activities the past months and now, the next target will be a Church. According to DOH-NCR director Eduardo Janairo on Wednesday, the agency will target the frequently crowded Quiapo Church as the next venue for anti dengue-carrying mosquito activities. Janairo said that although misting activities were previously done in the home of the Black Nazarene, they have not yet attempted to accompany it with disinfecting. ?We already have a partnership with Msgr. Jose Clemente F. Ignacio (current Rector of the shrine) which we recently discussed,? Janairo said. Quiapo Church is known to be one of the most heavily populated churches in Metro Manila, especially on Fridays when devotees light a candle as a petition to what was believed as the miraculous Black Nazarene. Aside from the Church itself, several other prominent structures are located within the vicinity of Plaza Miranda, the heart of Quiapo District where vendors sell various items from rosaries and prayer books to DVDs and love potions. The Church has its own Disaster Management Ministry in charge of assisting and taking care of flood victims that live along the area, especially during heavy floods.
